A new ABC drama series faces possible legal hassles even before it hits the air. Deadline.com reports that the producer behind “Forever,” about an immortal living in New York City, received a “pointed letter” from RadicalMedia over the similar-sounding premise to a 2003 novel.

That novel is also called “Forever,” with writer Pete Hamill also focusing on an immortal living in New York City. The letter from RadicalMedia, which was sent to producer Warner Bros. TV, says the TV show “sounds rather similar.”

RadicalMedia and Sundance Productions are working on a TV project based on the rights to the novel “Forever,” the story notes. The letter asks that WBTV “cease using the title of Mr. Hamill’s novel as the title of this new series to avoid any confusion as to the true origins of your series, which should be in line with your assertion that Mr. Hamill’s book was not used to create this series.”

A representative for WBTV said the claim is “baseless.” The piece notes that titles aren’t protected by copyright.
