Comcast faced tough questions and remarks from consumer advocates and customers over its proposed merger with Time Warner Cable at its annual shareholders meeting, which also drew a protesters, reports the Los Angeles Times.

“So many people around the county dislike this plan to allow Comcast to gobble up so many more customers, including in major markets like Los Angeles," Hannah Sassaman, an organizer of the protest, said.

Comcast CEO Brian Roberts told investors attending the meeting that the merger will provide benefits.

“We think this is bringing together two great long-standing cable companies who operate in different markets," Roberts said. "To have those [Time Warner Cable] markets joined with our world-class suite of products will enable us to continue to innovate and grow our company."

The publication says “a handful of shareholders” criticized Comcast within the meeting, with about one in 10 speakers citing the merger as a concern.
