Syfy Unveils 'Massive Slate' of Projects, Including 'The Magicians' and Robert Kirkman Graphic Novel THR

Syfy has taken the wraps off what The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed calls “a massive slate,” with projects including Lev Grossman’s fantasy novel “The Magicians” and Robert Kirkman’s graphic novel “Clone.”

Another project is Jonathan Hickman’s “Pax Romana,” which is about a team that travels back in time as World War III is about to start in order to “fix” the future.

“The Magicians” is based on Grossman’s book series, which is sometimes described as “Harry Potter” for adults. The novels track a group of young adults as they study magic at a college and discover a hidden world, which includes a creature that could destroy the planet. The project will be written and executive produced by Sera Gamble of “Supernatural” and John McNamara of “In Plain Sight.”

“Clone,” meanwhile, is based on the graphic novel by Kirkman and David Alpert. It tracks a retired soldier who investigates a break-in at his home, discovering the intruder is his own clone.

In casting news, Syfy has tapped “Battlestar Galactica” star Tricia Helfer for the lead role in its six-part space opera “Ascension.”
