'Wheel of Fortune' Host Pat Sajak Stirs Up Hornets' Nest With 'Unpatriotic Racists' Tweet TheWrap

Pat Sajak, the longtime host of “Wheel of Fortune,” was the target of a backlash on social media after he described people who are concerned about climate change as “unpatriotic racists,” reports TheWrap.com.

“I now believe global warming alarmists are unpatriotic racists knowingly misleading for their own ends. Good night,” Sajak tweeted Monday night.

While some people supported him, others “scoffed” at his tweet, and climate scientist Michael E. Mann wrote that the risks of getting it wrong on climate change were much larger than the consequences of losing on “Wheel of Fortune.”

“Hey @PatSajak, this aint the Wheel of Fortune,” Mann wrote. “If we lose this game, it isn't just one person's misfortune. All humanity pays the price.”

It remained unclear whether Sajak was serious or merely joking, however, TheWrap reports, noting that the game show host has sparked controversy over his conservative views in the past. Sajak tweeted in April that he was coming out as heterosexual, which some people criticized as making light of those who come out as gay.

"Whether Sajak was making a joke or truly held the beliefs he espoused on Twitter was up for debate in media circles Tuesday," TheWrap adds. "Mediaite noted a follow-up tweet in which Sajak cryptically suggested he enjoyed stirring the pot just for the fun of it."

Sajak's follow-up tweet reads: "Sometimes it's fun to poke a stick in a hornets' nest just to hear the buzzing."
