Big Turnout for Return of MSNBC Anchor

MSNBC saw its viewer numbers surge with the return of an anchor who has been out of action for a while. Deadline.com reports that about 809,000 viewers tuned in to watch the emotional return of Lawrence O’Donnell to the cable channel, or about 39% more than the network has averaged so far this month.

About 149,000 of those viewers were in the news demo of 25-54, which was up 11% from the network’s June-to-date demo numbers, the story notes.

O’Donnell spoke about the taxi accident that injured him and his brother, and also talked about David Koch, who had donated money to the hospital where he was treated.

His ratings beat “CNN Tonight” at 10 p.m., although O’Donnell trailed Fox News’ “Hannity,” which drew 1.56 million viewers.
