Cameron Crowe, the director of “Almost Famous” and “Jerry Maguire,” has received a green light from Showtime for the comedy pilot “Roadies,” reports the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker.

Crowe will write and direct the pilot, which will focus on the behind-the-scenes world of a band on tour. Joining the project as executive producers are J.J. Abrams of “Star Wars” and Winnie Holzman, the creator of “My So-Called Life.”

“Though there's no guarantee that Showtime will actually order ‘Roadies’ to series, it certainly has an impressive pedigree,” the publication notes.

The story adds: “Crowe knows a thing or two about touring bands. Before he became a screenwriter and director, he spent his teen years writing for music magazines, including Rolling Stone. His first cover story for Rolling Stone was based on three weeks he spent on tour with the Allman Brothers Band. His experience as a young journalist was the basis for ‘Almost Famous.’”
