Chelsea Handler Lands on Netflix, Set to 'Revolutionize' Late-Night Talk MTV
Chelsea Handler, who recently announced that she will end the eight-year run of her E! talk show -- and who was the subject of numerous rumors about the rapidly changing late-night talk landscape -- is headed to Netflix.
MTV.com reports that Handler has signed a multiyear contract for a show on the online streaming service.
"The format of the show, which will premiere in early 2016, according to the announcement, has not yet been set, but will feature guest interviews. Interestingly, the frequency of the show, whether weekly, daily or some other option, has not yet been announced either," the story reports. "The deal also includes four documentary specials and a stand-up special for Handler on Netflix. The announcement claimed that Handler’s new show will 'revolutionize' the late-night show format."
In a statement, Handler said: “If I was going to continue working in this industry, I knew I had to do something outside the box to keep myself interested. I wanted to sit with the cool kids at lunch so I approached Netflix to make sure they were as cool as I thought they were, and when I confirmed my suspicions, like with any other future lover, I made my move. I’m more excited than I’ve been in awhile, and the team at Netflix is the most forward thinking, alert group I’ve sat down with in ages. No offense to the ‘Shahs of Sunset.’”
Meanwhile, E! is gearing up to bid farewell to “Chelsea Lately” with a one-hour finale, set for Aug. 26.
