NBC Wins Week in 18-49 Demo, CBS Chalks Up Win in Total Viewers

NBC and CBS are sharing the spoils in the battle for prime-time broadcast ratings, with NBC racking up wins in the key 18-49 demo while CBS continues to claim the No. 1 spot in total viewers.

For the week of June 16-22, NBC was No. 1 among the broadcast networks in viewers 18-49 while CBS was on top in total viewers, based on Nielsen Media Research "live plus same day" figures.

NBC averaged a 1.2 rating for the week in 18-49, translating to an average of 1.5 million viewers. That topped the averages of ABC (1.0 rating), Fox (1.0), CBS (0.8) and CW (0.3).

CBS averaged 5.0 million total viewers for the week to lead NBC (4.9 million), ABC (4.1 million), Fox (2.9 million) and CW (1.1 million).

NBC noted that airings of its "America's Got Talent" ranked No. 1 and No. 2 for the week in the 18-49 demo.

CBS pointed out in a press release that it aired almost all repeat programming during the week, with Monday's "48 Hours" special being its only original hour of programming. Even so, the network noted, it had five of the top 10 broadcast programs during the week, including the No. 1 drama, "NCIS," and the No. 1 comedy, "The Big Bang Theory."
