Online Emmy Voting Rolls Out Today

The Television Academy is rolling out online voting for the Primetime Emmy Awards' 104 categories starting today, reports TheWrap.com.

The move comes more than two years after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences had its sometimes-rocky rollout of online voting for the Oscars, the piece notes.

Starting today at 9 a.m. Pacific time, the 16,500 voting members of the TV Academy can cast their online votes, the story reports.

“But have no fear, paper-lovers: Voters who enjoyed cross-referencing their lists of eligible contenders with their Emmy-issued scantron sheets will be able to do things the old-fashioned way, too,” the report adds.

The hope is that online voting will increase the number of voters, John Leverence, the Television Academy's senior vice president of awards, told TheWrap.

“We felt it would be much more user-friendly,” Leverence said. “And we have found out in the past that when we make it more user-friendly, we have more participation.”
