The HBO drama series “True Blood” chronicled the immortal lives of vampires, and it now appears the property will live on as well — on a Broadway stage, the Associated Press reports.

“This was something that I pitched to HBO and (show creator) Alan Ball," said composer Nathan Barr, who spoke to the AP at the “True Blood” season premiere Tuesday in Hollywood.

Barr, who has written the scores for the series’ seven seasons, said the musical will focus on Sookie Stackhouse, the main character of the novels on which the HBO show is based. He said the show has proved to to be challenge to trim down, given its twists and turns and new characters.

“I think we're really going to try to return to the roots of the show," Barr said.

He added, “There's no guarantees. But I think the direction we're heading in is really exciting."
