An actress who had a career in feature films in the 1940s and 1950s before moving on to television has died. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mona Freeman, who played teenagers throughout the 1940s and 1950s in films such as "Junior Miss" and “The Heiress,” died May 23 at her home in Beverly Hills after a long illness. She was 87.

Freeman rolled up a long list of TV credits in the 1950s and 1960s, including appearances in episodes of “Maverick,” “Perry Mason” and “Wagon Train.” Her last onscreen credit was in 1972, when she appeared as Mrs. Bristol in the telefilm “Welcome Home, Johnny Bristol.”

“Always cast as a bobbysoxer even as she approached age 30, Freeman became bored with acting and turned to portrait painting,” the story notes.

Her portrait of Mary See has been seen at See’s Candies stores across the U.S. for years, the piece notes.

In “The Heiress,” a 1949 film, Freeman played Marian Almond, the cousin of Olivia de Havilland’s character.
