His TV career has been largely defined by his work for NBC — including both a wildly successful run as Jack McFarland on "Will & Grace" and a disastrous effort during the 2013-14 season on the one-season wonder "Sean Saves the World." But now Sean Hayes will take the plunge into the CBS comedy pool.
Coming off the cancellation of the low-rated “Sean Saves the World,” which aired 15 episodes before NBC gave up on it, Hayes is joining CBS’s “The Millers” as a series regular, the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker reports.
The actor will debut in the comedy as Kip Withers when the series returns for its second season in October. Withers will be a friend to Margo Martindale’s character, Carol Miller, which will annoy her son Nathan, who is played by Will Arnett, the story reports.
“The thought of he and Margo Martindale as BFF’s makes me smile every time I think about it," series creator Greg Garcia said in a statement. "We’re only just getting started, and writing this season’s stories has been a blast.”
Hayes earned a string of accolades and honors for his work on "Will & Grace" from 1998-2006, including six Golden Globe nominations, a Primetime Emmy — along with a total of seven Emmy nominations for his work on the show — and four Screen Actors Guild Awards, including one for ensemble cast.
He had a recurring role on "Up All Night" — another NBC comedy, which starred Christina Applegate and Maya Rudolph — in 2012.
