Former "Scandal" star Columbus Short, who has been in the news lately for a series of run-ins with the law, opened up about his personal issues in an interview with "Access Hollywood."

The New York Daily News reports: "Interviewer Billy Bush first questioned Short, 31, on what happened over Fourth of July weekend when he was reportedly arrested for public intoxication at a Dallas bar."

Short is quoted saying: "I was involved in no fight. I was with a group of people that were eating. I went to the bathroom and there was an altercation ensuing, I guess, and the cops thought I was somebody involved in the situation and they grabbed me up.

“By the time I was on the ground, I said — and I apologized to the officers later — but I said some pretty choice words."

Short commented on past incidents, saying, "I have not been perfect." In addition to allegedly punching a party goer, he has reportedly been arrested twice in alleged domestic violence incidents involving his estranged wife, Tanee Short.

The actor said: "I have not been all the things that have been in the press; (but) I will take ownership. Me and my wife are going through problems, serious, serious problems. However, the domestic part of it, I am not a physically violent man."

He confirmed that the couple is going forward with a divorce and that a restraining order is in effect, the piece reports.

"Short told Bush that 'Scandal' did not just toss him aside after three seasons of playing character Harrison Wright," the story reports.

Said Short: "[They] did not throw me to the curb like trash. That's my family. They knew that I was going through a tough season and rallied around me and wrapped their arms around me, from Shonda [Rhimes] to the craft service man."

He added: "We're a family and I think at a certain point when you're getting a barrage of stories after stories, ABC justifiably would want to distance themselves … they did the right thing, but I think it takes time to rebuild."
