An office of the Environmental Protection Agency apologized after apparently accidentally tweeting Monday about the hot app Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, USA Today reports.

The publication reports that someone at the EPA's Office of Water sent a message on the agency's Twitter account saying: "I'm now a C-list celebrity in Kim Kardashian: Hollywood. Come join me and become famous too by playing on iPhone!"

The post, which was retweeted at least 2,800 times, was later deleted from the account, the story reports. But Glu Games, the developer of the Kardashian game, sent out its own tweet later Monday apparently poking fun at the EPA: "Keep at it @EPAwater, you'll get there. #AList #WillowPapeIsTheWorst #KimKardashianGame"

EPA Water followed with this tweet: "Whoops…our bad. Sorry about tweet. Upside – more attention for the Office of Water (http://water.epa.gov ), thanks @KimKardashian"

A spokesperson for the agency explained in an email sent to USA Today: "An EPA fellow inadvertently triggered an auto-generated tweet. She regrets the error and has been advised on the sensitivities of using social media."

But USA Today reports separately that John Dingell, D-Mich., the longest-serving member of Congress, caught wind of the incident and questioned what's going on at the EPA — apparently in a light-hearted manner.

Dingell, whose legacy includes helping to write the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act and the Endangered Species Act, tweeted later Monday: "I'm the last original author of the Clean Water Act, but I have no idea who/what a Kardashian is and I rarely play games. You OK, @EPAwater?"

He apparently later received a briefing on the Kardashian clan. Dingell followed with this tweet today: "Staff has now informed me of what a Kardashian is. I'm only left with more questions."
