‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Fargo’ Dominate as Emmy Nominations Are Announced — Here’s the Full List of Nominees

HBO's wildly successful fantasy series "Game of Thrones" had a big morning as the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations were announced, chalking up a whopping 19 nods — with the FX miniseries "Fargo" racking up a not-too-shabby 18 nominations, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The announcement was heavy on familiar names, with recent Emmy perennials such as Bryan Cranston, Jon Hamm, Claire Danes, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Julianna Margulies all represented.

The closely watched best drama series category features a clash of heavyweights, with "Game of Thrones" taking on "Breaking Bad," "Downton Abbey," "True Detective," "House of Cards" and "Mad Men."

Four-time best comedy winner "Modern Family" also has some competition, with "The Big Bang Theory," "Louie" and "Veep," along with upstarts "Silicon Valley" and "Orange Is the New Black," all nominated in the category "Modern Family" has owned in recent years.

The Netflix series "Orange Is the New Black" scored an impressive 12 nominations, including one for Taylor Schilling for lead actress in a comedy series.

"Netflix was well represented in the Emmy nominations Thursday morning," the Times reports. "Along with 'Orange Is the New Black,' the streaming service's political drama, 'House of Cards,' earned 13 nominations, including its second best drama series nomination, and acting nods for Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright."

"Breaking Bad," which wrapped its final season last fall, received 16 nominations, including best actor for Bryan Cranston and best supporting actor for Aaron Paul.

The nominations were announced by Mindy Kaling and Carson Daly, appearing at the Television Academy in North Hollywood. The Emmy Awards are set to take place Aug. 25 at the Nokia Theatre, with Seth Meyers hosting. The ceremony will be televised live on NBC.
