Is It Just a Coincidence That a ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Poster Looks Like the 9/11 Attack — and the Movie Opens on 9/11? Here It Is — Decide for Yourself

Paramount is getting some heat over a poster that some observers think looks a lot like the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on the Twin Towers in New York — for a movie that, coincidentally or not, opens Sept. 11.

Boston.com reports that the fuss is all about a promotional poster from Paramount Australia for the Sept. 11 opening in that country of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”

“The poster showcases the four Ninja Turtles freefalling from a burning (and possibly exploding) skyscraper, with the film’s Australia release date in fine print,” the story reports. “Problem is, that release is scheduled for September 11. It was posted to both the Facebook and Twitter accounts and has since been removed.”

The release of the poster sparked an uproar on Twitter. The story posts a few examples, including these tweets:

“Nice PR fail by Paramount Australia. (HINT: Look at the art and then release date)”

“Well that is a rather unfortunate poster / release date combo #tmnt”

“Bad Marketing Timing: Paramount releases this poster in Australia before realizing a 9/11 release date. #doublecheck”

The report notes that Paramount had not commented on the controversy. The movie, which stars Megan Fox, Alan Ritchson and Johnny Knoxville, opens Aug. 8 in the U.S.

Here’s the poster …
