Morning News Ratings: While ABC’s ‘GMA’ Cruises at the Head of the Pack, Another Network Telecast Just Posted Its Best Number in 20 Years — and Unlike Its Rivals, Its Numbers Are Rising

ABC's "Good Morning America" chalked up another quarter at the top of the rankings among the broadcast networks' morning news programs, but a rival broadcast is quietly posting gains — including hitting a 20-year high mark.

"CBS This Morning" averaged 3.05 million viewers in the second quarter, which the network says is the show's best number for the second quarter in 20 years.

For the week ending June 27, the program's 2.89 million total viewers represents an 8% increase from the same week a year ago, making "CBS This Morning" the only network morning news program to post a gain, the network reports.

By comparison, "GMA" averaged a segment-leading 5.5 million total viewers for the quarter, and 4.9 million for the week. NBC's second-place "Today" averaged 4.8 million for the quarter and 4.3 million for the week.
