Palestinians or Israelis? ABC News Gets It Wrong — Here’s the Video

ABC News is doing damage control after an embarrassing on-air flub this week. According to The Hollywood Reporter, network anchor Diane Sawyer described a photo aired in a report Tuesday as showing Israelis “trying to salvage what they can” after a Palestinian missile attack. The problem was that the image actually depicted Palestinians following an Israeli air strike.

The mistake was pointed out by Rania Klahek, described in the article as a pro-Palestinian journalist.

Today ABC World News posted a statement on Facebook apologizing for the error, and vowed to correct it.

“On Tuesday night 'World News' aired a report on the conflict between the Palestinians and Israelis, including attacks from both sides. In the introduction to the story, we mistakenly identified a family depicted in a still photo. They are Palestinian, not Israeli. We regret the error and will correct it,” the statement said.

The original photograph correctly identified its subjects on the Associated Press’ website, the story adds.
