Report: Man Shows Up at ABC Studios With Knife, Threatens to Kill Morning Host NY Post

A regular on daytime TV at ABC reportedly was the target of a death threat Tuesday in New York. The New York Post's Page Six reports: "A knife-wielding homeless man went nuts outside ABC’s Studios in Times Square Tuesday and declared that he wanted to 'kill Michael Strahan,' police sources told The Post."

The report adds: "Andre Johnson, 25, pulled the knife and made threatening remarks about Strahan, the New York Giants football legend and part-time co-host of 'Good Morning America,' during an argument with a security guard near the show’s sidewalk-side set at around 8 a.m., according to the sources."

Strahan co-hosts the daytime talk show “Live! with Kelly and Michael” with Kelly Ripa.

The Post reports that a police officer who was working as security for ABC was able to knock the serrated knife out of Johnson's hand, with Johnson then quickly being detained by police.

Police sources quoted Johnson saying, "I was there to kill Michael Strahan," when he was questioned, according to the report.

The piece cites a source at the studio saying Strahan was unaware of the situation until later that afternoon, and was never in danger.

A spokesperson for ABC News is quoted saying: “It was a scary situation but thanks to the fast actions of NYPD the situation was quickly under control."

The report notes that the crowd of onlookers gathered outside the “Good Morning America” broadcast was largely unaware that anything out of the ordinary had taken place. It was not known why Johnson threatened Strahan.

"Johnson was charged with attempted assault as a felony, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon. The suspect was awaiting arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court Tuesday night," the story reports. "He has a number of out-of-state warrants and was likely to be held without bail, a clerk said."
