‘The Strain’ Showrunner Offers His Thoughts on Those Billboards With the Worm Coming Out of the Eyeball — and in Case You Missed It, Here It Is Again

After some graphic billboards promoting FX’s “The Strain” were pulled following complaints from people driving past them, showrunner Carlton Cuse admitted that the billboards “may have been too far out there for some people,” reports Deadline.com.

He added, “I personally liked it.” The billboard showed a worm coming out of a human eyeball. “I think that the ad was bold and imaginative and clearly not for everyone,” Cuse said on a conference call.

The show is based on the trilogy by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. Both del Toro and Cuse said they had received strong support from FX management.

“John Landgraf read all three books and he made the decision that ‘The Strain’ fit into the portfolio of shows on FX,” Cuse said. The edgy content belongs at FX, the pair said.

Cuse added, “We can’t drop F-bombs but that’s about it; FX has been incredibly supportive.”
