Chase Carey could be returning to the News Corp. fold, according to multiple published reports.
Carey, currently president and chief executive officer at DirecTV, is in talks to replace the exiting Peter Chernin as president and chief operating officer of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., according to a story first filed by Sharon Waxman on The Wrap.com. While Murdoch had previously said he wouldn’t replace Chernin, The Wrap said Murdoch has been trying to lure Carey since Chernin first announced his planned departure.
Variety also picks up on the story, reporting that Carey would “return to News Corp. in the role of vice chairman, based in New York.” Executives at News Corp. who thought they’d be reporting directly to Murdoch would now have a dotted line to the mogul.
