‘Friday Night SmackDown’ is moving from MyNetworkTV  to cable’s Syfy next season.

The start date is Oct. 1. Also in October "WWE NXT," which debuted on Syfy in February, will end its run on the network.

To  make room for "SmackDown," Syfy will more its Friday night line-up to Tuesday. "With Tuesday night, a proven winner for our original drama series including "Warehouse 13," there is bigger opportunity for series such as "Stargate Universe," "Sanctuary" and "Caprica" to thrive on a night with a significantly larger number of viewers available to watch live,” said Dave Howe, President, Syfy, in a statement.

Furthermore, the announcement said "SmackDown" averages more than 3.4 million viewers a week and is currently the most watched TV program on Friday nights among Males under 55 and beats all Friday primetime programming on ABC, NBC, FOX and CW among Men 18-34. The two hour television program will be presented weekly on Syfy and feature a star-studded cast of WWE Superstars and Divas including Undertaker, Edge, Rey Mysterio, Chris Jericho, CM Punk®, Michelle McCool, Beth Phoenix and Layla.

In a somewhat related story, MyNetworkTV, which is losing "SmackDown," is reportedly picking up the off-cable rights to USA’s "Burn Notice."

  1. SyFy isn’t SciFi anymore!!!!!!

  2. Agreed. WWF isn’t Sci Fi and neither is the Sci Fi network.
Get rid of the junk and crap movies, and show Star Trek, Farscape, Stargate, Firefly, Battlestar, Doctor Who, old Buck Rogers, etc all day long.
WWF makes a mockery of Sci Fi.

  4. Well there goes my watching these shows. Friday worked perfectly for me since nothing else was on. Just another example showing that the heads of SciFi have their heads up somewhere…..

  5. It’s a good move, at least for my area. The audio on WMYO (local) is horrible; I have to increase the volume almost full blast just to hear anything on that station. It’s possible this is the same issue all around the region and mynetworkTV doesn’t want to upgrade (oh, the irony: we all had to but they wouldn’t). No surprise going to ‘USA 2’-er, Syfy. As long as the sound quality is good, I’m for it.

  6. Way would you want to take it from those that don’t have cable
Many in my community cant want to sit with the family and have a good ole SMACK DOWN night like it been for a while ….
I just don’t like this switch

  7. Re. Gap’s logo: I cant adequately stress the power of the fuck I don’t give.
