FX has cast an Oscar-winning actress to star in the cable network’s new drama pilot "Outlaw Country," reports Deadline.com.

The thriller, which is set in the country music world, will star Mary Steenburgen as an overprotective mother and a Nashville recording success. Steenburgen won an Oscar for her performance in “Melvin and Howard.”

Waylon Jennings’ son Shooter has been named as executive consultant and music supervisor for the potential series.
