In a case of being at the right place at the right time, ABC’s summer documentary series "Boston Med" captured one of the rarest procedures of all, the AP reported.

In the course of shooting months and months of footage at three Boston hospitals, the show filmed the failed heart transplant for James Helfgot, which turned into the successful face transplant for James Maki.

"Boston Med" premieres on ABC on June 24 at 10 p.m. ET, with the rare face transplant story to run in the Aug. 12 episode.

  1. ABC news came into Brigham and Womens’ hospital in March 2009 and filmed my son Duane’s double lung transplant. Is any of that footage in the Boston Med series?

  2. To the first episode of BM – what is up with Dr.Patel- I couldn’t believe how she made a comment about the young 22 yr old trying to hit on her….she is old enough to nurse him??? Is she crazy, so inmature & the fact that she was laughing about the patient that was stabbed! What an idiot! and,a screw up with the patient that died because of her! wtheck! Please tell me I was mistakingly watching a Sci-FI!

  3. I pray that your son is doing very well Ms. Nadeau.

  4. @GonzeSM I believe the patient that Dr Patel was attempting to intubate was already near death and I don’t think her lack of action caused the patient’s death. In fact, during that scene you can overhear another DR telling her the patient would have died anyway.
That said, she does seem extremely immature.

  5. I am almost certain I saw an episode that had a double lung transplant.
