The writer who co-created Fox’s “24” is penning a new drama for cable about legendary detective Allan Pinkerton, the man behind the Pinkerton Detectives, Deadline.com reports.

Actor Gerard Butler is attached as executive producer and possibly will star in the Starz project from Bob Cochran, the story says.

The pilot for a miniseries to run eight to 10 hours will be a fictional version of Pinkerton’s professional adventures. "Pinkerton" will also include the Scottish-born detective’s work with the Union Intelligence Service, which was the predecessor of the U.S. Secret Service.

Pinkerton had a major part in quelling an assassination attempt on Abraham Lincoln in Baltimore when Lincoln was going to his inauguration.
