After Its Next Season in 2011 ‘The Closer’ Will Reach the Magic 100 Episodes and Call It Quits

The stars are aligning to wrap up TNT’s acclaimed series "The Closer" next year.

First, star Kyra Sedgwick’s contract will come to an end after season seven, which will begin in the spring of 2011. At the end of that season "The Closer" will also have wrapped 103 episodes.

And that’s a magic number, as Washington Post TV columnist Lisa de Moraes observes: "Do you have a favorite show and wonder how much longer it’s going to be around? Check to see if it’s about to hit its 100th episode. That’s the dangerous age when a show has amassed enough episodes to be a strong player in syndication, etc., and executives at the studio producing the show begin to mutter under their breath about the salaries being paid to the cast."

The story add, " ‘Kyra blazed a new trail in the television landscape with her performance as Brenda Leigh Johnson,’ Michael Wright, executive vice president and head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies intoned sadly Friday [Dec 10, 2010] in a statement. ‘Like her many fans, we will miss her terribly, and we will be forever grateful for the time we got to spend with her,’ he added."
