After Playing a Role in Solving the Murder, ‘America’s Most Wanted’ Plans Second Episode on Ronni Chasen Case

“America’s Most Wanted” plans to go ahead with a second episode devoted to the slaying of Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen, according to The Hollywood Reporter, even though the case has reportedly been solved thanks to a tip that came in through the show.

A viewer’s call to the Fox show led police to Harold Smith, whose gun matched the weapon used in the Nov. 16 shooting of Chasen in Beverly Hills. Smith used the gun to kill himself when he was confronted by police investigating the Chasen case at his Hollywood apartment.

Investigators announced Wednesday that, in effect, the case was solved, and that they now believe Smith acted alone and killed Chasen in an apparent robbery gone bad.

“America’s Most Wanted” already had a second Chasen episode in the works and plans to go ahead with it, airing it this Saturday, Dec. 11, at 9 p.m. ET.

Fox said in a statement, "America’s Most Wanted has once again proven that one person can make a difference."

"The Hollywood community reached out to ‘AMW’ and host John Walsh to help find Chasen’s killer," the statement says. "’AMW’ immediately began working closely with the Beverly Hills Police Department, and profiled the case on its Nov. 20 broadcast."

Added Walsh, the show’s host, "I’m very proud that this loyal ‘AMW’ viewer had the guts to call our hotline to help solve this case. After 23 years on the air, it reconfirms my belief that an average person can make a difference. It’s my hope that the Chasen family will now have some answers."
