As It Leaves PBS, KCET Scraps ‘Sesame Street’ in Favor of a New Lineup of Kids Shows

Kids won’t be able to find out how to get to Sesame Street any longer from KCET-TV, which will air a whole new slate of children’s programming beginning Saturday, when it ends its PBS affiliation, reports Yvonne Villarreal in the Los Angeles Times.

The station won’t air other PBS shows, either, including "Curious George," "Sid the Science Kid," "Clifford the Big Red Dog" or "Martha Speaks," the story notes. Instead, it will air a new weekday lineup of children’s shows, including the Canadian animated series "Busytown Mysteries," based on the books of Richard Scarry, and "Peep and the Big Wide World," a cartoon that teaches about nature and science.

The station will keep the series "A Place of Our Own" and "Los Niños en Su Casa," the article notes. But the station won’t air children’s programming for the entire 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. block as it currently does, instead turning to home-themed shows such as gardening and cooking series after 10 a.m., the story points out.

KCET said it will debut the KCET Kids & Family Channel, available on broadcast channel 28.2, Time Warner Cable channel 237, Cox 103 and Charter 310, the story says. It’ll include Spanish-language content and other children’s shows including "Anne of Green Gables" and "Big Green Rabbit," the story adds.
