According to a survey by CNET, the holiday gifts that people desire this year are heavily oriented toward consumer electronics, with differing choices for men and women, B&C reports.

The top item overall is the Apple iPad, according to the story. Specifically, an Apple iPad 3G that’s loaded with unlimited music and apps was higher on the list of wishes than universal health care, maid service for a year, a lifetime membership in Netflix or an Amazon Kindle preloaded with 2,000 books.

Among male respondents, in the category of consumer electronics, high-end television sets were tops, followed by laptops and tablets. But among female respondents in the same category, tablets were on top, followed by smartphones and televisions.

The survey also revealed that respondents planned to spend an average of $815 on holiday gifts this year, 10% higher than in 2009. Consumer electronics accounted for 43% of the planned expenditures.
