Google Asks Some TV Manufacturers to Delay Announcements on Google TV Hardware

Dec 20, 2010  •  Post A Comment

Google is asking some television set manufacturers to hold off on announcing hardware based on its software, reports The New York Times

The move comes as some additional TV set makers were expected to use the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January to debut new Google TV products, the story notes. But Google asked the manufacturers to hold off so it can work on the software, which has seen mixed reviews.

The request both caught the TV set makers off guard and shows the struggles Google is facing as it attempts to expand into the consumer electronics market, the story points out. While Google has often improved new products after introducing them, that’s trickier with consumer electronics, where companies make big bets at specific times, such as at back-to-school season or the holidays, the article notes.

A Google spokeswoman declined to discuss "rumors and speculation," it says.
