Interview With Michael Moore Angers Viewers, Prompting Olbermann to Bail Out on Twitter

Dec 17, 2010  •  Post A Comment

After receiving a flood of angry tweets over a Tuesday interview with Michael Moore, MSNBC host Keith Olbermann has suspended his Twitter account, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The host of "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" spoke with Moore about his $20,000 contribution to bail out WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who is accused of sex crimes, the story notes. Moore said Assange is a "pioneer of free speech" for putting thousands of secret documents on his WikiLeaks site. Moore also called the charge against Assange "a bunch of hooey."

That led to angry tweets from viewers, who said the pair had been flippant when talking about the sex crimes accusations.

Olbermann said he’s done with Twitter–for now. "I’ll suspend this account until/if this frenzy is stopped," he said in a tweet. The article said he didn’t respond to a request for comment.

  1. Often those who are public leaders are controversial and have odd private sex lives. Check out the private lives of Martin Luther King and John Kennedy and Nelson Rockefeller. If it is proven he did the crime he should do the time. But the fact he stood up for free speech should not be used to convict him.

  2. I’m still undecided as to whether this guy (Assange) is a hero or should be neutralized. But he has NOTHING to do with free speech and he damn-sure isn’t a pioneer. He merely convinces young minds full of mush with access to classified data to spill those secrets to him so that he can take the “glory.” While I think leaking some secrets is a good thing, leaking everything just because you can is foolish. Those who blindly support such activity are either anarchists (who should die) or simply hopelessly naiive. Or both.

  3. Amazing freakin blog here. I almost cried while reading it!

  4. I find it funny that he thinks the lowest rated cable news program at 8p could cause a ‘frenzy’. Last time I checked the Fox News 8P newshour ratings were at least 10x this hopeless tool.

  5. Wanting to compare Fixed NutBAGS with ANYBODY else is insane, they have more lowlifes running for President than u can shake a stick at. As far as Assange is concerned wouldnt it have been nice if there had been someone telling us about Iraq BEFORE we went to war? Cmon THE TRUTH about what the U.S. is doing should be just a fact of life not something hidden.

  6. Hey how are you doing? I just wanted to stop by and say that it’s been a pleasure reading your blog. I have bookmarked your website so that I can come back & read more in the future as well. plz do keep up the quality writing

  7. I agree. I was one of the viewers who believe that Olbermann and Moore were discussing the Assange case in a manner that was “flippant”. It should be not surprise to anyone if you know Olbermann and Moore. It is quite apparent they do not even like their own country. It is typical from what I have heard of Olbermann to run away (suspend his twitter account) as soon as he receives some viable opposition. He really is a lightweight. This is why he never has anyone with a dissenting opinion on his show.

  8. You dumb@$$ – look up a fact or two. Olbermann is consistently ranked in 2nd place in the timeslot with CNN in last and is the highest rated show on MSNBC.
At least when you spout your uninformed opinion comment we know you’re getting your new from a ‘reliable’ source like Fox/Papa Bear O’Reilly.
Try researching your claims for about 2 seconds before making them, dips–t.
