New ‘Biggest Loser’ Includes an Olympic Gold Medalist Who Ate Until He Weighed 474 Pounds

The 11th season of "The Biggest Loser" will feature its most famous competitor yet:, an Olympic gold medalist who packed on the weight and ended up with 474 pounds on his 6’1" frame, reports the Los Angeles Times’ ShowTracker blog.

It’s Rulon Gardner, a Greco-Roman style wrestler who won a gold in 2000 and a bronze medal in 2004. He says he caught a look at himself on television and couldn’t believe his size, the story says. ""I kept denying it until I couldn’t deny it anymore," he said.

Gardner, 39, will appear on the show with his business partner Justin Pope, also 39, with whom he owns the Rulon Gardner Elite Training Center in Logan, Utah, according to the Logan, Utah-based Herald Journal. The pair had to go through the same casting process as everyone else, the story notes.

The Los Angeles Times notes in its story that among the season’s other contestants are twin brothers and law enforcement officers, a health club general manager who is ashamed to tell people what she does for a living, and an opera singer who said she doesn’t want to lose out parts to slimmer rivals.

The story notes that the competitors will face a Season 11 twist: a choice of whether to stay at "The Biggest Loser" ranch and work out for a week with Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels and face getting booted off the show then, or to leave for a secret location where they will work with two unnamed trainers for a month before returning to the ranch for the elimination round.
