Olympic Documentary Filmmaker Bud Greenspan Dead at 84

Bud Greenspan, the prolific filmmaker who was best known for his coverage of the Olympics, died Saturday at the age of 84, the AP reported. Greenspan had been suffering from Parkinson’s disease.

For sixty years, he chronicled the greatest athletes of the Olympics and his films, seen primarily on television, won countless awards. Greenspan received lifetime achievement awards from the Directors Guild of America and the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, as well as a Peabody and the Olympic Order award.

His best-known production was "The Olympiad," a 10-part series released in 1976 that capped 10 years of research and was televised in more than 80 countries.
