Sarah Palin Uses Her TV Show to Try to ‘Refudiate’ Origins of 2010 Word of the Year

Dec 28, 2010  •  Post A Comment

Sarah Palin used Sunday’s episode of TLC’s "Sarah Palin’s Alaska" to "refudiate" what the Oxford University Press called 2010’s word of the year, reports the New York Daily News.

The former governor of Alaska complained to her husband on the TV show that "refudiate" was simply the result of a mis-typed tweet, the story says.

But the article points out that her memory might not be accurate, since she misspoke the word while on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show, saying President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama "have power in their words. They could refudiate what it is that this group is saying," referring to the NAACP’s position on alleged Tea Party racism.

  1. In her world, everyone else is stupid. Except, of course, those that follow her. Proving once again that ….you can fool some of the people all of the time…..

  2. Again you people jump at any chance to belittle Sarah Palin. What are you afraid of anyway?

  3. Liberals will *always* tell you whom they fear the most, by whom they pay an inordinate amount of attention.

  4. No one is afraid of Sarah Palin, Red. No one jumps at a chance to belittle her. She’s doing an excellent job herself proving how she’s an incredibly narcissistic self-serving phony. Some of us choose to remind those of you that the empress is wearing no clothes. The woman is playing you for a sucker Red. Open your eyes.

  5. We don’t belittle her, she does it to herself with her ignorant comments.

  6. Sarah has pimped her family and now is pimping her state to line her pockets. Back at the turn of the 19th century W. D. Griffith made two movies about Sarah and her ilk—“Greed” & “Intolerance”.
Too bad he didn’t make third titled “Ignorance”.

  7. Does anyone understand where our words come from? Every word in our language, in fact in every language, was first said or written by someone. No one else had ever heard or saw that word before someone coined the word. That is how language develops, grows and is changed. Meanings of words change over time. New words are constantly entering our language. If you have a dislike, or even a fear, of someone, you might try to denigrate them because of them using a word you feel is inappropriate or totally incorrect. Will “refudiate” still be in our language in 50 or 100 years? Only time will tell. If so, Sarah Palin will have added to our lexicon. If she had explained what she meant by her “new” word, she would not have been castigated by her opponents. If she is smart, she will come up with some other new words and then will explain what they mean (AT THE TIME SHE SAYS THE WORD OR WORDS). This way, she can make lemonade out of the lemons. A simple example is instead of calling it the Obama Health Care Plan, call it the Obama Health Care Enema. Then you explain that whenever an Enema goes in, you know what always comes out.

  8. The skeptical observer seems to be making the same rambling excuses Sarah did when she quit her former position.
All of which lacks another made up word that was explained as it was used: truthiness.
