Viacom has told Federal Communications Commission commissioners Michael Copps and Mignon Clyburn that it’s concerned about the Comcast/NBC Universal merger, according to an ex parte filing on meetings between the parties, according to B&C.

Viacom reps said the company is concerned about how independent programming would be impacted by the merger, with fears that the new company would have "increased incentive and ability to impede competition in the markets for linear and over-the-top video programming by favoring its own content to the detriment of independent programmers," the story says.

These concerns are the same raised by some congressional Democrats, who have asked the FCC to place conditions on the merger.

Antoinette Cook Bush, Viacom counsel, and other executives asked the FCC to consider taking steps to protect independent content providers from anticompetitive measures, the story notes.
