The most controversial element of the show was host Ricky Gervais. We urge you to click here and read Baltimore Sun critic Michael Sragow’s very insightul review of Gervais and the show. It begins,   "The normally clever-to-brilliant Ricky Gervais resorted to nonstop insult comedy as ‘the host’ of the Golden Gloves last night. He appeared to be auditioning for a dinner-theater version of ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?’

His main game was ‘Get the Guest.’ "
