Numbers Are In for First Week of Oprah’s New Network

The ratings are in for Week 1 of Oprah Winfrey’s OWN Network, which launched New Year’s Day. The Hollywood Reporter says that, according to final ratings, the network cumulatively drew 18.5 million viewers during its premiere week, which ended Jan. 7.

The network ranked No. 25 among cable networks in prime time (8-11 p.m.) for the period from Jan. 1-9, the story says, averaging 505,000 viewers and a 0.55 household rating. That’s up 49% from the previous network that occupied that spot on the cable dial, Discovery Health.

OWN had a 0.41 rating among women 25-54, the story notes, up 58% from Discovery Health.

The new Oprah network was the 28th-ranked cable net for the week in total day, averaging 239,000 viewers.
