Food Network announced that the season premiere of “Chopped All-Stars” pulled in big numbers Sunday night, contributing to the network’s highest-rated March night ever.

The 9 p.m. premiere was the second-highest-rated show of the night in adults 25-54 on ad-supported cable, with a 1.7 average rating. Nielsen reported that the show attracted an average of 5.6 million total viewers, including 3.2 million in the 25-54 demo.

It was also the most-watched episode in series history, the network reported.

Food Network is focusing on creating destination programming on Sunday nights, and says it will present stunt programming at 9 p.m. every Sunday during 2011. The “Chopped All-Stars” premiere is the first of five episodes in the competition, hosted by Ted Allen. The series will feature Food Network stars including Anne Burrell and Duff Goldman, along with renowned chefs.

  1. I am planning to visit one of marcus Samuelson’s restaurants. Why is Chris Santos a judge on Chopped? He cooked one of the worse meals; and was eliminated on Chopped All-Stars. Not only did the meal look un-appetizing apparently it was!
