The star of ABC food show "Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution" is being credited with influencing the Los Angeles Unified School District to ban the sale of sugary, flavored milks in the school cafeterias, reports the Los Angeles Times.

By a vote of 5-2, the largest school district in America will erase chocolate and strawberry milk from lunch menus to promote more healthy choices in an effort to combat childhood obesity.

Superintendent John Deasy appeared on "The Jimmy Kimmel Show" last April and told Oliver on air that he would initiative the anti-flavored milk proposition. After learning of the vote Tuesday, Oliver told the Times, "This is a giant step forward for the health and future of 680,000 kids in Los Angeles, and leads the way for more school districts around the country to follow."

The district continues to revamp its menu to emphasize healthier choices, with more ethnic foods also being added. Among the changes, corn dogs, chicken nuggets and other breaded dishes are said to be on the way out.
