In a sign that YouTube is serious about its move into original programming, the website has brought a cable veteran on board to help create a new channel, The New York Times reports.

Bruce Seidel, who ran food-related programming at the Food Network and the Cooking Channel, will play a key role in developing a food channel for YouTube, the story reports.

Ben Silverman’s Electus company is behind the project and was responsible for Seidel’s hire. While with Food Network, Seidel helped develop "Iron Chef America" and "Food Network Star."

YouTube’s plans for a new food channel will be done in coordination with Urbanspoon, a website devoted to food reviews and eating.
