Disney Channel has renewed a musical comedy series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Production on a new season of "Austin & Ally" is set to start this summer, the story reports.

The show focuses on the extroverted singer Austin and the shy Ally, a songwriter, the story notes. The program debuted to 5.7 million viewers in December and now averages 3.4 million viewers, the piece adds.

The musical portion of the show has proved popular, with the song "A Billion Hits" reaching No. 1 on Radio Disney’s top 30 chart, according to the story.
