Former “American Idol” contestant Jermaine Jones, who was kicked off the Fox singing competition during Wednesday night’s broadcast, said he was caught by surprise by his disqualification, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jones was confronted during the broadcast by executive producers Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick, who raised particular concerns about four outstanding warrants. Ultimately they dispatched him from the show because of those warrants, saying he misled producers about his record.

Jones said he circled “yes” on his application to the show, in response to a question about whether he had been arrested, and said he had a lawyer handle certain issues in the application process. He admitted to “minor infractions” in his record.

Jones talked about his disqualification during an interview Thursday on HLN’s “Showbiz Tonight.”

"I thought they were bringing it to my attention," Jones said during the interview. "Letting me know that now they are aware of, you know, this, that and the third. I didn’t know what was going to happen.”

  1. Why would a guy who lied to police about his name also lie to the producers? Why would you or I believe anything he says in his video?

  2. And more importantly, why are we still talking about this?!?
