With the future of one of the show’s mainstays up in the air at NBC’s "Saturday Night Live," the show plans to add a new female cast member, reports Deadline.com.

Kristen Wiig’s contract expires at the end of the current season, and a decision on whether she will remain with “SNL” is expected to be made during the summer.

Seven comedic performers have tested for producer Lorne Michaels, the story says. They include Jessica Joy of "The Playboy Club," Kate McKinnon of "The Big Gay Sketch Show," Lauren Lapkus of "Are You There Chelsea" and Elaine Carroll of "Very Mary-Kate," the story says.

McKinnon will debut on this Saturday’s show, which features guest host Sofia Vergara, the report notes. It’s not clear whether Michaels will give more female candidates a chance to try out on the show, the story says.
