Discovery Pulls Plug on Veteran Series

After almost seven years and 200 episodes, Discovery Network has halted production on one of its signature shows, reports Joe Adalian in New York Magazine’s Vulture blog.

"Cash Cab," hosted by Ben Bailey, recruited contestants from New Yorkers trying to hail a cab. Once in the taxi, the fares were told they were on a TV game show and could win money as they drove toward their destination.

The show beat out other veteran series including "The Price Is Right" to win the Daytime Emmy for best game show from 2008-2010, while Bailey won as best host in 2010.

Repeats will continue to air in syndication, and it’s possible the show’s producer, Lion Television, could shop it to other networks, the story says.

  1. I got tired of it always being in NYC.

  2. Agreed! NYC isn’t the only place in the US with taxis.
