Is the Honeymoon Over for Kutcher’s ‘Two and a Half Men’? Series Hits an All-Time Ratings Low

A former CBS ratings juggernaut could be in trouble. “Two and a Half Men,” which has been generally doing better than expected since Ashton Kutcher took over the lead role after the celebrated flame-out of Charlie Sheen, fell to a historic low in Monday night’s Nielsen overnights, TVbytheNumbers.com reports.

“Men” pulled a series-low 3.5 average rating in the key demo of adults 18-49, falling 8% from its previous original. Two other Monday night CBS sitcoms were also down, as the comedy block showed signs of rust upon its return to original episodes for the first time in three weeks. “How I Met Your Mother” was down one-tenth from its previous original to a 3.4, tying a series low, and the story was the same for “2 Broke Girls”: down a tenth and tying a season low with a 3.4.

On the up side, CBS’s “Mike & Molly” was up one-tenth to a 3.2 and “Hawaii Five-0” climbed one-tenth to a 2.6.

Doing the most damage to CBS was NBC, which won the night behind a two-hour installment of “The Voice.” The singing competition was down two-tenths of a point to a 3.9 in 18-49 — a Monday season low, but still the best number of the night.

NBC won prime time overall with a 3.3 average in adults 18-49, topping CBS (3.1 average), ABC (2.4) and Fox (2.1). Total viewers was a different story, with ABC claiming a win with 13.0 million, followed by CBS (9.5 million), NBC (8.9 million) and Fox (6.7 million).

ABC’s two-hour “Dancing with the Stars” was even with last week with a 2.9 average rating in the 18-49 demo.

Fox saw “Bones” and “House” both fall in the ratings — “Bones” was down a substantial four-tenths of a ratings point from its Monday debut a week earlier, slipping to a 2.1 in 18-49. “House” was off two-tenths, also settling for a 2.1.

  1. Why does the article position this is a Two and a Half Men issue where most of the CBS Monday schedule was down?
I think nicer weather plus increasing interest in The Voice are more to blame.

  2. The show is unwatchable.
    Kutcher is no Sheen.

  3. I would have kept watching except the woman who plays his girlfried is unbearable. I suppose they are trying to make him the anti-Charlie but she is utterly boring and just doesn’t fit.
