With the two-hour season performance finale of “The Voice” doing the heavy lifting, NBC won the night Monday in the key 18-49 demo in Nielsen overnights, TVbytheNumbers.com reports.

CBS saw one of its best-performing new shows go out with a whimper, as the one-hour season finale of “2 Broke Girls,” up against stiff competition from “The Voice” and ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” managed only a 3.2 average rating in 18-49, down four-tenths of a ratings point from its previous original episode and a series low.

Also hitting a historic low on CBS was “Hawaii Five-0,” which fell two-tenths from last week to a series-low 2.3. “Mike & Molly” was also down, just one-tenth, to a 3.1, while “Two and a Half Men” was flat with a 3.7.

NBC’s “The Voice” pulled a 3.7 in the 18-49 demo, up from last week’s 3.5 but down substantially from last summer’s performance finale, which notched a 4.4. “Smash” bounced back slightly from last week’s series low, rising one-tenth to a 1.9.

“Dancing with the Stars” on ABC hit a series low for a performance episode with a 2.8 average in 18-49, while “Castle” rose two-tenths of a ratings point from last week to a 2.5.

Fox’s “Bones” slipped one-tenth to a 1.9 average in 18-49, while “House” remained steady with a 2.1.

NBC won the night in the 18-49 demo with a 3.1 average rating for prime time overall, ahead of CBS (2.9 average), ABC (2.6) and Fox (2.0). Total viewers, however, was ABC’s territory, with 14.9 million viewers on average, to CBS’s 9.6 million, NBC’s 9.0 million and Fox’s 6.5 million.

  1. Explain how a 3.2 versus 3.7 on the Voice finale, and 2.8 on Dancing is going out with a whimper. I think 2 Broke Girls held their ground very well considering the competition. Plus it was a very funny show with an outstanding cameo from Martha Stewart.

  2. I think the CBS comedy block did well considering it is against The Voice and Dancing with the Stars. But there are NO excuses for the remake of Hawaii 50, a 2.3 demo for a CBS drama after the strong comedy block is really bad. I don’t think CBS ever got those weak numbers on a Monday night for all the years CSI Miami was there. Of course no surprise, the show is just awful, all of it, acting and plot.
I am a little disappointed on Smash, but stil happy to be able to see a second season.

  3. One thing to remember…. It’s (2 Broke) not just on CBS. Its also on “E4,” a “Channel 4” network companion channel in the UK and Ireland. Also it’s on “CITY TV” in Ontario. How well do these shows stack up there….. When you add it all up, in other countries and the USA…. Which I see regularly, DID it really go out with a whimper?
I know we have readers from those other countries.
Another example…. “Are you being Served?” Horrible loss for the UK’s BBC ONE. It was not a death sentence for the show, because it had such appeal in other countries. The show was such a hit it was seen on America’s “PBS” for years, “UK Gold,” “UKTV” and currently on “GOLD+1”
I almost got the impression that they are saying the show may be a loss that is strong enough to stop producing.
Digital, I agree It’s a decent show… and the US competition is high. We just don’t take into account of the other countries and what they run.
The writers also need to take a more global view on these shows, with less of a slant or slam dunk.
