CBS Puts Up New Series Against Olympics — With Predictably Disastrous Results

NBC’s Olympics coverage dominated the prime-time ratings Sunday, according to Nielsen overnights, with a new CBS show hit especially hard as it aired its time-period premiere against the juggernaut sports coverage from London.

TVbytheNumbers.com reports that CBS’s new dating show “3,” which aired its time-period premiere (and second episode overall) at 9 p.m., managed only a 0.5 average rating in the key 18-49 demo, with only 1.76 million total viewers.

Not only were those numbers dwarfed by NBC’s prime time averages for the Olympics — an 11.4 average in 18-49 and 35.45 million total viewers — but “3” also came up well short of its time-slot competition on Fox, two reruns of “Family Guy,” which averaged 1.6 and 1.5 in the 18-49 demo with 3.11 million and 3.17 million total viewers.

CBS fared a little better with a fresh “Big Brother” at 8 p.m., which attracted a 1.8 average in 18-49 and 5.11 million total viewers.

Otherwise, the night belonged to NBC and the Olympics, with the other nets putting up all repeat programming.
