The star of "The Dark Knight Rises," Oscar-winning actor Christian Bale, spent Tuesday in Aurora, Colo., where he visited with victims of the movie theater shooting, the Denver Post reported. Bale was at the Medical Center of Aurora for nearly three hours.

Bill Voloch, interim president of Medical Center of Aurora, told the newspaper, "The patients were really happy to meet Bale. They are obviously big fans of his movies. They wanted to see ‘Batman’ and were really pleased to see Bale.”

The newspaper reported that Bale was not there as part of a press visit planned by Warner Bros., which released the blockbuster, but made the visit on his own. Bale also met with doctors, police officers and emergency medical personnel who were first among the responders after the shootings.

Last Saturday, following the shootings early Friday during a screening of “The Dark Knight Rises,” Bale issued a statement, saying, “Words cannot express the horror that I feel. I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them.”

In the wake of the shootings, in which 12 people were killed and another 58 injured, Warner Bros. canceled appearances by cast members at overseas premieres.

Bale, the star of the last three “Batman” movies, won an Oscar in 2011 for his supporting role in “The Fighter.”
