TCA Report #2: Date Set for New Ken Burns Documentary; American Master David Geffen Explains Why a Dreamworks Studio Could Not be Started Today

During PBS’ portion of the Television Critics Association tour over the weekend it was announced that award-winning documentary filmmaker Ken Burns will have have a new documentary on PBS stations November 18-19, 2012.

Burns new documentary is called "The Dust Bowl," and the two-part, four-hour program –according to PBS — "[C]hronicles the environmental catastrophe that, throughout the 1930s, destroyed the farmlands of the Great Plains, turned prairies into deserts and unleashed a pattern of massive, deadly dust storms that for many seemed to herald the end of the world. It was the worst manmade ecological disaster in American history."

PBS also announced that in 2014 another Burns documentary, the seven-part "The Roosevelts: An Intimate History," will air.

David Geffen, who will be the subject of an upcoming "American Master" program on PBS was also at the PBS part of the press tour.

According to Deadline.com, "Geffen said today it would be ‘impossible’ to raise the $2 billion financing that formed the original DreamWorks which he co-founded back in 1994 with [Steven] Spielberg and [Jeffrey] Katzenberg as the first new Hollywood studio in 50 years. ‘I don’t think it can be done today for a start-up. I don’t think anyone can raise $2 billion, I couldn’t do it today.’ "
