Weak Premieres for Two New ABC Shows; All-Star Game Numbers Down From Last Year

Fox won the prime-time ratings battle Tuesday night, according to Nielsen overnights, even though its Major League Baseball All-Star Game saw its numbers slip from last year’s game, TVbytheNumbers.com reports.

The game scored a 2.9 average rating in the key 18-49 demo, down from the 3.1 final rating for last year’s game. The numbers are subject to significant adjustment due to the nature of live sports programming.

NBC saw its two-hour “America’s Got Talent” bounce back from last week’s season-low 2.3 in 18-49, scoring a 2.7, up 17%. “Love in the Wild” managed to rise too, pulling in a 1.3 average, up a tenth of a ratings point.

ABC’s prime-time lineup performed poorly, with two premieres faring especially badly. “Wipeout” led things off with a 1.4 average in viewers 18-49, down 22% from the previous original — and that was as good as things got for the Alphabet Network. Back-to-back episodes of “Trust Us With Your Life” at 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., including the series premiere, both managed only 1.1 ratings. The premiere of “NY Med” at 10 p.m. did a little better — but only a little — rising to a 1.2 average.

For the night, Fox won prime time with a 2.9 average rating in 18-49, followed by NBC (2.2 average), Univision (1.4), ABC (1.2) and an all-repeat lineup on CBS (1.1). Fox also won total viewers, averaging 10.0 million to 8.4 million for NBC, 6.5 million for CBS, 4.4 million for ABC and 3.7 million for Univision.
